Physical Properties:

  • Density: 7.85 g/cm³ (7850 kg/m³)
  • Tensile Strength (Rm): 670–850 MPa
  • Yield Strength (Rp0.2): 460 MPa (min)
  • Elongation (A): ≥ 20% (for thickness up to 25 mm)
  • Hardness (HB): 190–220

Machinability:
4130 seamless pipes are highly machinable due to their alloy composition, offering an excellent balance of strength and ductility. The material can be easily turned, drilled, and milled using standard machining practices. The slightly lower carbon content provides good machinability, while the molybdenum content enhances its hardenability for higher stress applications.

Machining Tips:

  • Use HSS or carbide cutting tools for best performance.
  • Maintain moderate cutting speeds to reduce tool wear.
  • Coolant or cutting fluid is important to avoid heat buildup and extend tool life.

Weldability:
4130 seamless pipes offer excellent weldability due to their balanced alloy composition. They can be welded using common techniques such as MIG, TIG, or arc welding. However, preheating may be necessary for thicker sections (over 30 mm) to ensure the best weld quality.

Welding Guidelines:

  • Preheat sections over 30 mm thickness to avoid cracking.
  • Use low-hydrogen electrodes to prevent hydrogen-induced cracking.
  • Post-weld heat treatment may be required for thicker sections to relieve internal stresses.

Usage Areas:
4130 seamless pipes are highly versatile and are used in industries that require high strength, wear resistance, and the ability to withstand extreme pressures and temperatures. Some key applications include:

  • Aerospace Industry: Used in structural components, landing gear, and high-stress applications.
  • Automotive Industry: Ideal for suspension parts, axles, and drivetrain components.
  • Oil & Gas Industry: Used in pipeline systems, drilling equipment, and pressure vessels.
  • Heavy Equipment Manufacturing: Used in hydraulic cylinders, shafts, and other components subjected to high mechanical stress.

Industries Using 4130 Seamless Pipes:

  • Aerospace: Structural components, landing gear, and other high-stress parts.
  • Automotive: Suspension, drivetrain, and structural parts.
